Burdwan blast: Court extends NIA custody of Hakim and Zia-ul-Haq

Kolkata, Nov 14 (IBNS): The Banksal Court in Kolkata on Friday has extended the National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody of two arrested terrorists of Burdwan module- Abdul Hakim and Zia-ul-Haq - up to Nov 20.

The NIA had presented Abdul Hakim and Zia-ul-Haq to the Banksal Court before on Nov 5 and Nov 8 respectively.

The court had given them NIA custody up to Nov 14.

Abul Hakim was injured in Burdwan blast and treated in Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial (SSKM) hospital.

The NIA had arrested Zia-ul-Haq on Nov 7 from Malda district in West Bengal.

According to NIA, he was the part of Jihadi training module where he was a key Jihadi motivator and would motivate the trainees in the Jihadi ideology and he is very closely associated with top Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) commanders.

Another arrested terrorist in the same case, Alema Bibi will be presented to the Banksal court on Saturday.

The Burdwan blast incident had taken place on Oct 2 last at Khagragarh area in Burdwan district when the explosion in a house led to the killing of two bomb makers and discovery of a cache of arms and ammunition. 

Several terror modules were busted following the explosion and its investigation.
