BSF seize red sandal wood valued approx 18 lac in WB

Kolkata, May 26 (IBNS) The troops of BOP Hakimpur, 152 BSF apprehended one Indian national along with 298 kg red sandal wood and one engine fitted van under Police Station Swaroopnagar, 24 Parganas (North) of South Bengal frontier on, officials said on Monday.

 "BSF received specific intelligence input regarding smuggling of consignment of huge quantity of Sandal wood from India to Bangladesh near BOP Hakimpur area.    On this information at about 1100 hrs troops of BOP Hakimpur, 152 Bn BSF under South Bengal Frontier launched a Special Operation near BOP Hakimpur to apprehend the smuggler with the consignment.  Special Operation team noticed the movement of a local engine fitted van   towards Bangladesh," read a government statement.

On seeing the movement Special Operation team challenged him and succeeded to apprehend the miscreant along with 298 Kg Sandal wood valued approx Rs.18 Lac.  

"On initial interrogation  the person disclosed  his identity as Aktarul Dalal, aged 34 yrs, S/O Jamat Dalal, Vill-Hakimpur, PS-Swaroopnagar, Distt-North 24PGS, WB. The person was handed over to PS – Swaroopnagar and the seized Sandal Wood was handed over to Forest authorities for further legal action," it said in a statement.
