Bollywood condemns Nice terror attack
Mumbai/Nice, July 15 (IBNS): The Bollywood fraternity on Friday condemned the terror attack in French city Nice which claimed at least 84 lives while many were injured during the Bastille day celebrations.
A man drove a truck into a crowd mowing them down in what is yet another strike in the European nation reeling under repeated assaults by the extremists.
Reacting to the attack, actor Akshay Kumar tweeted: "Sad 2 wake up 2 the news of the #NiceAttack! Heartbreaking!Was there last yr,beautiful place & people. Prayers 4 the families of the victims."
Actress Bipasha Basu posted: "Heart goes out to all the victims of yet another shocking and brutal act of terrorism #NiceAttack."
Condemning the attack, director Kunal Kohli wrote: " #nice #terror #attacks yet again! Is there an end to this? Or there isn't?"
Sunny Leone tweeted: "It's not safe anywhere anymore!keep your eyes&ears alert & if you see or hear anything please report it.stay strong citizens of the world!"
"My heart goes out to all the victims and families who have been hurt by all this violence everywhere. God Bless and pray for peace on earth!," she added.
In her reaction the the brutal act, actress Dia Mirza wrote: "Weapons are destructive. They can not accord peace. The world is living proof of that."
Actress Raveen Tandon posted: "And 80 souls in heaven in France and 1 in hell..many moons ago I had said RIP Europe and many didn't understand ..frequency of attacks in E."
The French citizens were celebrating Bastille Day, when the incident took place in the fifth most populous city of France on is south east coast on the Mediterranean Sea.
Witnesses said that a white lorry drove over a crowd, who had gathered to see the fireworks as part of the celebrations.
The driver has been identified as a 31-year-old man of French-Tunisian descent while France has declared three days of mourning.
Police shot the attacker dead, but the man retaliated with a pistol before he went down.
Victims of the attack, deemed to be the second worst since the Paris attack last year, were mostly residents of Nice and tourists, people who were out on the streets to witness the grand celebrations.
Post the attack, French president Francoise Hollande extended the state of emergency and also chaired an inter-ministerial crisis meeting along with the French Prime Minister.
