BMW crash in Delhi: Businesswoman held for killing Finance Ministry official
Businesswoman Gaganpreet Kaur (38) was arrested on Monday on charges of culpable homicide, rash driving, and destruction of evidence after her BMW crashed into a bike near Delhi Cantonment metro station on Sunday, killing Navjot Singh (52), a deputy secretary in the Union Finance Ministry.
Gaganpreet, married to Parikshit Makkad (40), who was also in the car, was brought out of NuLife Hospital, GTB Nagar, where she was being treated for minor injuries, and taken into custody. Police have also named Parikshit in the FIR.
Navjot Singh and his wife, Sandeep Kaur, were returning home after visiting Bangla Sahib Gurdwara and lunching at Karnataka Bhavan when the accident occurred.
Sandeep told police that the BMW was speeding and had overturned after rear-ending their bike.
A passerby, Gulfam, rushed the injured couple to the hospital in his van, accompanied by Gaganpreet.
However, instead of taking them to the nearest hospital, she allegedly directed Gulfam to NuLife Hospital, nearly 19 km away, where her father is believed to be a co-owner.
Police are probing whether this was an attempt to hush up the case or tamper with evidence, though the hospital has denied wrongdoing.
