BJP's first outreach meeting with UP's pasmanda Muslims on Sunday

A meeting of BJP and pasmanda Muslims or backward Muslims will take place on Sunday in Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow, media reports said.

BJP's first such meeting is being viewed as the party's outreach to UP's backward Muslims after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the party members to work for their upliftment while addressing the BJP's national executive meeting in Hyderabad in July.

The meeting also comes less than a month after its ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's chief Mohan Bhagwat met with Muslim intellectuals, including former Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi and former Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, to discuss sensitive issues such as the Varanasi's Gyanvapi controversy, hate speeches, population control and the campus hijab row in Karnataka that have been creating disharmony in the country.

PM Modi had reminded party leaders about the BJP's second consecutive victory in the UP assembly election.

He had underscored that BJP's work in the state had benefitted people from all sections, which resulted in CM Yogi Adityanath-led government's win.

Danish Azad Ansari, a young pasmanda Muslim leader in UP, was made the Minister of State for Minority Welfare, Waqf and Haj after Yogi Adityanath won the state election for a second term.

BJP has won big in the last two Lok Sabha elections but wants to do better in 2024 by cultivating new vote banks.
