BJP won in Maharashtra, Delhi through electoral malpractices, won't succeed in Bengal: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won in the Maharashtra and Delhi assembly elections through electoral malpractices but the similar trick would be befittingly countered in her own state which goes to polls next year.

Mamata made the remark while addressing her party workers at Kolkata's Netaji Indoor Stadium on Thursday.

"BJP won in Maharashtra and Delhi through electoral malpractices. They (Maha Vikas Aghadi and AAP) couldn't understand the trick. BJP has started a similar game in Bengal. But we will give a befitting reply to them. It's a challenge," Mamata said.

"BJP will also be ousted from power anytime between 2027 and 2029... They have targeted Bengal because we can only fight against the BJP," she added.

Mamata has accused the BJP of including fake voters from other states- mostly from Haryana- in the voter list in the run up to the 2026 assembly elections in West Bengal.

The Chief Minister, who also heads the ruling Trinamool Congress, warned of staging a dharna (sit-in protest) outside the office of Election Commission of India (ECI) if the alleged irregularities are not corrected.

"If I can go on a hunger strike for 26 days, then we can also do a dharna outside the Election Commission's office," the TMC chief said.

Despite claiming the malpractices, Mamata tried to sound confident in winning the 2026 assembly elections with an even bigger margin.

"The game is on. We will have to give a bigger punch in 2026," said Mamata.
