Lucknow/IBNS: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Uttar Pradesh in-charge Radha Mohan Singh met Governor Anandiben Patel on Sunday morning amid speculations of state cabinet's expansion ahead of assembly election next year, said media reports.

The meeting comes days after he chaired a review meeting with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, state ministers and party leaders.

Asked if he has informed the governor about the expansion of UP cabinet, he said it was up to the chief minister to expand the cabinet though berths are available for inclusion, NDTV reported.

Singh said his meeting with the governor was a courtesy call. "Since I became the in-charge of the state, I have not met the Governor".

He was given charge of the BJP's state unit in November last year.

According to news agency ANI, the BJP has sought feedback from its leaders to strengthen the party in the state, especially in the wake of the outcome of panchayat polls and criticism over handling the coronavirus situation in the state.

It is being speculated that the Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh will reshuffle the state cabinet.

According to the NDTV report, Radha Mohan Singh also said the the chief minister was doing a "fine job", adding that "Everyone believes in his mettle. Everyone knows that he has done the work of Corona recently."

"The UP government and the BJP organisation is functioning very well... It is the strongest party unit and the most popular government across the country," he added, it stated.

With elections due next year, the party has decided to develop strategy based on the feedback received from ministers and state leaders in the state government, boost its  image and find solutions to issues in the state.

The ANI report said improving coordination between the party and the government is also part of the efforts and BJP national general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh arrived in Lucknow and held meetings with certain ministers and leaders of the state.

BL Santosh was accompanied by Radha Mohan Singh, the report informed.

The meetings also come after these leaders flagged issues like Covid-19 handling, dissatisfaction among people and disconnect between government and party leaders, among others
