BJP takes big lead in Jind in Haryana, Congress annexes Rajasthan's Ramgarh
New Delhi, Jan 31 (IBNS) : BJP candidate Krishna Middha surged ahead of Jannayak Janta Party's (JJP) Digvijay Chautala by 15,000 votes, leaving Congress's heavyweight Randeep Singh Surjewala in the third spot in Haryana's Jind where a bypoll was held as the tend was emerging with the counting of result on Thursday.
The Congress, though lagging much behind in Jind, has already won the Ramgarh seat in Rajasthan.
The Jind bypoll was necessitated following the death of INLD MLA Hari Chand Middha, BJP candidate's father. The Congress fielded its chief national spokesperson and Kaithal MLA Randeep Singh Surjewala.
The INLD, which had won Jind in the last election, has put up Umed Redhu as candidate to retain the seat. JJP candidate, 27-year-old Digvijay Chautala, is the younger son of jailed leader Ajay Singh Chautala, who broke away from the INLD and floated the party.
The Jind Assembly by-election result is said to be the test case for the political sentiment in Haryana months ahead of the Lok Sabha elections and the state elections scheduled for later this year.
The Congress, meanwhile, won the Ramgarh seat in Rajasthan, adding one to its tally of 99 to touch the half-way mark in the 200-seat assembly.
With this win, the party will remain in a comfortable position with the support of its alliance partner RLD, which has one MLA.The Congress candidate in Ramgarh, Saafiya Zubair, won by a margin of 12,000 votes. The elections in the seat could not take place in Dec 2018 due to the death of BSP candidate Laxman Singh before the polls.
In Ramgarh,BSP has fielded former Union minister Natwar Singh's son and former MLA Jagat Singh while the BJP nominee is Sukhwant Singh.
