BJP, reacting to Rahul Gandhi's comment, says corruption not a Gujarat poll issue and so Modi talking about 'vikas'
Ahmedabad, Dec 12 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not talking about the 'corruption' issue because it is not an issue in Gujarat, was the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) response to the topic raised by Congress President-elect Rahul Gandhi during his press meet in Ahmadabad on Tuesday.
BJP caimed that PM Modi is showcasing 'vikas' as part of his campaign strategy, reports said.
The BJP also blamed Congress for driving a wedge between castes. "Congress should come back to real secularism," said BJP spokesman, according to media reports.
The BJP said it has been in power in Gujarat for 22 years and is confident of staying thus for another 5 years, media reported.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi upped his Gujarat campaign with a seaplane ride to Dharoi Dam for an onward road journey to Ambaji Temple.
The PM offered prayers at the Ambaji Temple on Tuesday afternoon. He is scheduled to take the seaplane back to Ahmadabad same day.
Both Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi were scheduled to hold road shows in Ahmadabad on Tuesday, the last day of the campaign for the Gujarat Assembly election - second phase but the police had cancelled both roadshows citing security issues.
So while Modi chose to visit Ambaji and attend meet supporters in Mehsana, Gandhi decided to hold a press meet in ahmedabad.
Gujarat, which is undergoing a two phase assembly election, witnessed 66.75% turnout in the first phase. The second and final phase for the remaining 93 seats will be held on Dec 14. In the first phase, 89 Assembly seats went to polls.
The votes will be counted on December 18.
