BJP-led Assam government to deport 17 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants on Jan 9

Guwahati, Jan 8 (IBNS): BJP-led Assam government will be deported 17 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants including three hindus on Jan 9 to Bangladesh authorities, who were arrested few years ago and has been languishing at the detention camp.

A top official of the Assam government said that, the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who are at the detention camp in Southern Assam's Silchar jail will be deported to Bangladesh tomorrow following the decision taken up in the two round of talks with Bangladesh officials.

The three hindus are Bhagabati Goala (50), Rahul Das (23) and Mou Das (18).

The deportation process comes during the period while opposition parties and several organizations of the state protests agianst the BJP-led Union government's move to grant citizenship to the non-muslim immigrants of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan by amending the citizenship act.

"The deportation decision have been taken up in the two round of talks between the two countries officials held last year," the top Assam government official said.

"They will be pushed back from Karimganj sector site of the border," the official said.

Last year, the Assam government had deported 10 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who were arrested in the state for illegally entering India.

The official further said that, 17 were among the 54 immigrants of Bangladesh and Myanmar were arrested few years ago for illegally entering India.
