BJP leader killed in Birbhum, clashes erupt between TMC and BJP in Cooch Behar

Bolpur, Aug 18 (UNI) A BJP leader was killed when a bomb was hurled at him near his home at Labpur in West Bengal's Birbhum district, after which the local administration deployed reinforcement on Sunday morning to restore peace in the area.

Eye witnesses told that Dalu Sheikh, who switched over to the saffron brigade from CPI(M), had been very active in the new party.

After the crime happened at Dwarka Mirbandh village, the family members and the local people resisted the police from taking away the body for post mortem and alleged that the police resorted to baton charging to disperse the agitating mob.

However, police denied the allegation, but the victim's son produced himself before the media and showed his back with marks of batoning.

The BJP claimed that since Dalu Sheikh was very active in the saffron brigade and was involved in building the party, he became the target of the ruling TMC.

They also alleged that one of the companions of Dalu Sheikh was missing since the crime happened.

Reinforcement was deployed in the locality anticipating fresh trouble when the body would arrive from post mortem before last rites.

Meanwhile, fresh violence between the TMC and the BJP in Cooch Behar's Mathabanga area of north Bengal left three persons injured last night.

BJP claimed that its three activists were wounded in the clashes and have been admitted to a local hospital.
