BJP govt depriving Indian children of their rights through CAA: Arvind Kejriwal

| @indiablooms | Mar 13, 2024, at 07:18 pm

Kolkata/IBNS: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the implementation of controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), accusing the country's ruling party of depriving Indian children of their rights.

Kejriwal says by implementing CAA, the government is giving away the rights of the children to migrants from neighbouring countries, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

The Chief Minister said, "If BJP does not withdraw CAA, then people should express their anger by voting against BJP. In the last 10 years, 11 lakh rich industrialists and businessmen left India. If BJP has to bring them back, then it should bring these people back.

"They will come to India, they have money, they will provide employment. What disgrace is this that we will give place to the people of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan in India and will give them employment which is right for our children."

Kejriwal, who heads the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which rules Delhi, has alleged the BJP is playing vote bank politics with CAA.

He says, "By snatching jobs from crores of children of India, by demolishing the houses of Indians, it will provide jobs and houses to crores of people of Bangladesh-Pakistan-Afghanistan.

"BJP is playing with the country like this only for the sake of vote bank."

The Centre Monday notified the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

The notification paves the way for granting Indian citizenship to people belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian communities on grounds of religious persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh before 2015.

In a post on X, the Home Ministry said, "These rules, called the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024 will enable the persons eligible under CAA-2019 to apply for grant of Indian citizenship."

"The applications will be submitted in a completely online mode for which a web portal has been provided," it said.

The Parliament passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in December 2019.
