BJP-Akali Dal alliance poised for landslide victory in Chandigarh civic polls

| | Dec 20, 2016, at 07:06 pm
Chandigarh, Dec 20 (IBNS) : Ahead of the crucial state Assembly elections, Punjab's ruling BJP and Akali Dal combine is poised for a landslide victory to retain capital Chandigarh's municipal board as it is set to win 20 out of the 26 seats with the Congress leading in three seats, reports said.

The BJP is leading in most of the seats.

In the outgoing house, the BJP-Akali Dal hold 12 seats, the Congress 11 and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party two.

For the ruling combine which has been in power in Punjab for ten years, the civic poll victory will come as a big morale booster as it virtually negates any anti-incumbency factor coming  their way in the Assembly polls.

The BJP  has reasons to smile more because the civic polls results overrule people's resentment against  Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ban on 500 and 1,000-rupee notes aimed at eliminating corruption and black money.
