BJP accused of shooting at 3-year-old child during political violence over panchayat board formation in rural Bengal

Kolkata/Malda, Aug 30 (IBNS): A three-year-old child was shot in the head during a political violence over panchayat board formation at Ramnagar area under Manikchak Police Station limits in West Bengal's Malda district on Thursday afternoon, reports said.

According to reports, two days after winning, BJP candidate Putul Mondal had supported Trinamool Congress (TMC) during panchayat board formation in Manikchak.

Following the same, few miscreants on Thursday afternoon attacked the residence of Putul Mondal at Ramnagar village.

Besides vandalizing the house, attackers fired few bullets indiscriminately and the child was shot.

Sustaining a bullet injury in the head, the child was rushed to Malda Medical College and Hospital where he is undergoing treatment in a very critical condition.

Local TMC leaders and Putul Mondal have accused BJP of carrying out the attack.

"Miscreants from BJP attacked my house and shot at my three-year-old child as I supported TMC during board formation," Putul Mondal said.

Condemning of the incident, West Bengal president of BJP, Dilip Ghosh, denied his party's involvement in the incident.

"There was no involvement of BJP in the incident and police should investigate properly to identify and catch the attackers," Dilip Ghosh told IBNS.

"If any BJP activist is found guilty for doing such condemnable job, we will take strict legal action against him," Ghosh added.

Local police, however, have begun probe into the matter while none has been arrested so far in connection with the incident.
