Bimal Gurung and Roshan Giri set to return to Darjeeling today
Darjeeling, Apr 4 (UNI): Political equations in the Darjeeling Hills is expected to take a new turn, especially during the Lok Sabha elections, with the arrival of Gorkha leaders Bimal Gurung and Roshan Giri, who have been missing from the state police for more than 22 months since June 2017.
Armed with a Supreme Court order, the two Gorkha leaders are expected to arrive at the Bagdogra airport around 2pm on way to the hills of Darjeeling.
"As we all return home today, I take this moment to thank all the media persons who have covered injustices meted out to the Gorkha community, and our trials and tribulations. We thank the people of Darjeeling, Terai and Dooars for their unflinching support and love. We will be landing at Bagdogra Airport at 2 PM today. We look forward to interacting with you all there," Mr Giri, the general secretary of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, said.
The duo on Wednesday approached the apex count with prayer for four-week anticipatory bail to enable them take part in the electioneering.
Darjeeling will have the second phase poll on April 18.
Supreme Court judge Arun Mishra in an interim order on Wednesday restrained West Bengal from taking any coercive action against the duo in cases covered by NIA Act.
There are more than 300 cases against them.
