Bihar: Village panchayat bans jeans, mobiles for girls

| | Dec 21, 2014, at 08:36 pm
Gopalgunj, Dec 21 (IBNS): A village Panchayat in Bihar has banned girls from wearing jeans and using mobile phones claiming that it will prevent them from not getting diverted by western influences, media reports said.
Hathua Block Development Officer Jitendra Kumar said the decision was taken at a general meeting of panchayat officials in which mukhiya Krishna Chaudhary and Sarpanch Vinay Kumar Shrivastav were present.

The Singha Panchayat in the block claimed that such a diktat was brought  so that girls are saved from western influence.

The ban will come into effect from January 1, 2015.

Parents in the village have been asked to not buy their daughters jeans and mobile phones.

However, there will be no coercion in enforcing the ban. There are no provisions to fine or punish if anybody flouts the ban said reports.
