Patna/IBNS: Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani's father has been brutally murdered at his home in Bihar's Darbhanga district, media reports said.

The mutilated body of Jitan Sahani was found on his bed this morning.

A police team is already at Jitan Sahani's home.

Mukesh Sahani, who is a former minister in the Bihar government, leads VIP, which is an ally in the INDIA bloc comprising RJD and Congress.

VIP reportedly has a strong base among the OBC community.

A three-member Special Investigation Team or SIT has been formed to probe into the murder.

Strongly criticising the Nitish Kumar government, RJD spokesperson Shakti Singh said, "Everybody is worried over what is actually happening in Bihar. Not a day passes without the news of a murder. The administration in the state has been paralysed.

"The Chief Minister is in an unconscious state of mind. He has no clue what's happening in the state. Even the ruling party leaders are not safe in Bihar."

BJP Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said, "It's a saddening and unfortunate incident. But on behalf of the government, I assure action will be taken and the guilty will be punished."
