Bihar holds henna contests in schools to promote total prohibition

Patna, Jan 3 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): The Bihar Government is holding henna contest in all state-run girl schools to make the human chain programme aimed at promoting prohibition a grand success.

“The henna contest is being organized to ensure participation of  maximum number of people in the human chain formation,” Jan Shiksha director Vinodanand Jha said on Tuesday.

Bihar is to form world’s longest human chain on January 21 to promote prohibition which it implemented in April this year.

Authorities said the total length of the human chain will be 3,007 km involving at least 20 million people. This will come up on the main routes of the state between 10 am and 10.30 am on January 21 and will be photographed/video-graphed through drone, low-flying helicopters and satellites.

So far, the world record for the longest human chain involving five million people remains with Bangladesh. It was formed on December 11, 2004 along 1050-km (652.4 miles) route from Teknaf to Tentulia.

The Government has already prepared the route chart for the human chain programme.

While it will cover 1821 km in the north Bihar, its total length in south Bihar will be 1186 km.

Kumar claims the total prohibition has brought a sort of social revolution in the state stating it has improved the economic condition of people by way of improved health and led to higher buying power due to saving.
