Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad to fight against Yogi Adityanath in Gorakhpur

| @indiablooms | Jan 20, 2022, at 11:54 pm

Lucknow/IBNS: Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad will be contesting against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Hindutva icon Yogi Adityanath in the Gorakhpur constituency as the state plunges into assembly election next month.

Azad had earlier said he would take on Adityanath in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

This will be Azad's debut in electoral politics.

Despite saying he would contest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Azad had later backtracked considering he had no party at that time.

Gorakhpur, from where Adityanath was elected to the Lok Sabha five times prior to his stint as the Chief Minister, will go to polls on the sixth and penultimate phase, which will be held on Mar 3.

The Samajwadi Party, which is the main challenger of the BJP, is yet to announce its candidate.
