Bengal polls: BJP candidate in Keshpur attacked allegedly by TMC workers, ECI seeks report
Keshpur/West Medinipur/IBNS: BJP candidate Pritish Ranjan Kuar was attacked and his vehicle was ransacked allegedly by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in Keshpur in West Medinipur district of West Bengal on Thursday afternoon, reports said.
According to reports, when Keshpur's BJP candidate Pritish Ranjan Kuar was going to visit a polling station, a large mob attacked his convoy with bricks, sticks, rods and stones at Gunhara village.
Besides Kuar's SUV, several media vehicles were also vandalized, and few media personnel were also injured in the attack.
Later a heavy police force along with Central paramilitary forces rushed to the scene and at least 17 villagers, including four men and 13 women, have been arrested so far in connection with the case.
Pritish Ranjan Kuar, who managed to escape the scene during the violence, was rescued later and he has been taken to Keshpur Police Station.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has sought a report from the local administration and directed them to take strict action into the matter immediately.
Earlier in the morning, BJP alleged that Shabina Begum, a woman polling agent of its candidate Pritish Ranjan Kuar, was assaulted and her vehicle was vandalized in Keshpur.

Local TMC leaders denied both the allegations against their party.
Meanwhile, a TMC worker was allegedly stabbed to death in Keshpur on Wednesday night.
Police have initiated a probe into the matter and arrested seven persons so far.
