Ayodhya wrapped in tight security cover, drones used to vigil VIP routes for Ram Temple groundbreaking ceremony

Ayodhya/IBNS: The Uttar Pradesh Police has wrapped the city in security cover ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony of the Ramjanmabhoomi Temple on August 5.

The security measures include Covid-19 protocols and preventive measures, movement restrictions and drone vigil on VIP routes, said media reports.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the temple in a grand ceremony, where at least 50 other VIPs will be present, the media has reported.

A security protocol and a Covid-19 protocol will be followed for the Prime Minister and Covid warriors will be also deployed apart from security personnel, Deepak Kumar, deputy inspector general (DIG) of Ayodhya range said, according to news agency ANI.

People in the temple city have been asked not to move out of their houses to contain the spread of coronavirus, but they have not been restricted to move in the city, he added.

Shops will remain open in the temple town, but there is restriction in gathering of more than five people, the top cop said.

Strict vigil is being maintained on all VIP routes with drones, and outsiders will not be allowed to enter the city for security reasons, he added.

Police personnel, who have tested negative for coronavirus and are below the age of 45, will be included in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's security detail.

The Prime Minister's inner security ring will be handled by the Special Protection Group (SPG) officers, but police officials who have tested negative for coronavirus and kept in reserve in complete isolation will be deployed closer to the inner security ring, Hitesh Chandra Awasthy, UP’s director general of police (DGP) had said on Friday, reported media.

Police have planned route diversions to ease traffic as several places have been barricaded in Ayodhya.

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust, set up in accordance with the Supreme Court verdict, is organising the foundation laying ceremony.

The construction of the temple will begin after the ceremony.

Meanwhile, veteran BJP leaders LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi will not visit Ayodhya and attend the groundbreaking ceremony through a video link, said media reports. The two leaders, who were the face of the Ramjanmabhoomi Temple movement, were invited by phone calls, said reports, adding that a formal invitation was also being sent to them.
