At least five killed in South Sikkim landslides

Gangtok, Sep 20 (IBNS) : At least five people were killed and several injured in two separate incidents of landslide in south Sikkim's Namchi early on Wednesday, reports said.

The landslides, triggered by heavy rains, have cut-off a vast area from rest of the state.

According to reports, a landslide hit a house at upper Gurpisey, killing three persons of a family. There bodies remained buried under debris before being recovered by a rescue party.

Two injured have been admitted to Namchi hospital.

In the second incident that took place within an hour, a woman and her daughter were killed after their house was destroyed by a landslide at Kateng Namphok  area.

The Government has sent relief parties to the affected areas.
