Assam’s Foreigners Tribunal serves notice to another ex-army man
Guwahati, Nov 4 (IBNS) : In yet another strange incident that has come to light, a retired army man from Assam’s Barpeta district has reportedly been served with a notice from the Foreigners' Tribunal, asking him to prove his Indian citizenship.
Earlier, the Foreigners' Tribunal of Assam had sent notice to another ex-army serviceman, who had served the Indian Army for 30 years, and asked him to prove that he is an Indian citizen.
According to reports, the Foreigners' Tribunal no 1 of lower Assam’s Barpeta district on November three sent a notice to a retired army personnel, Mahiruddin Ahmed, who has served Indian army for 18 years, in connection with Foreigners Tribunal case no 129/2017.
The tribunal also served another notice to his wife in connection with a different case.
Mahiruddin Ahmed had served Indian army as a Havildar in the Field Ordinance Depot at Batinda in Punjab. He a resident of Khablarbhita village in Barpeta district.
According to reports, born on January 1, 1964, Mahiruddin passed the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination conducted by SEBA in 1980 and joined the Indian army on September 16, 1986. He retired from service on August 31, 2004.
Earlier, a similar notice was served on Mohammad Azmal Haque, who was appointed as Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) in the Indian Army. The Assam police, however, claimed later that the whole thing was a case of mistaken identity.
