Assam turns new route of illegal drugs trafficking, govt forms Task Force

Guwahati, May 12 (IBNS): Assam has turned a new transit route of illegal drugs trafficking.
A top official of Assam home department said that, the illegal drugs including heroin, brown sugar, ganja are trafficked from Golden Triangle, China, Bhutan, Bangladesh to Assam and north eastern region.
 
“We have identified some routes of illegal drugs trafficking to the state and taken special measures to curb it,” the official said.
 
Recently, the Assam state government formed a Task Force to launch operation against the illegal drugs trafficking.
 
“A special meeting of Task Force was held in Guwahati on May 11 and had taken various steps to deal it,” the government official said.
 
“The illegal drugs came from Myanmar, Thailand, Laos are trafficked to Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Patna through Assam,” the official said.
 
According to the government reports over 27,000 kgs drugs were seized in the state in past four years.
 
In 2012, security forces had seized 2413.15 kgs drugs, while 8064.05 kgs in 2013, 7909.07 kgs seized in 2014.
 
In India, a total of 4,17,913.36 kgs illegal drugs seized in 2012, while 35,24,273.22 kgs in 2013 and 3,43,508 kgs seized in 2014.
