Assam: Sonowal inaugurates liver transplant unit at Down Town Hospital

Guwahati, May 8 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday inaugurated a Liver Transplant Unit at Down Town Hospital in the city and said that the unit would serve the long felt need of such a facility in liver care in Guwahati.

          
Saying that there are many patients with liver ailments who needed to go outside the state for treatment and many who could not travel outside due to lack of money can now avail treatment at this facility, Sonowal said that the unit would drastically cut down costs for the patients and bring quality medical care within reach for all.
          
Stating that the world is driven by innovative technology and scientific developments and the state government has taken many steps for upliftment of the state’s health sector, Sonowal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘sabka sath sabka vikash’ mantra has ensured sweeping transformation in public healthcare system in the country making ‘healthcare for all’ a possibility.
            
“As a result of this positive change, the state’s healthcare sector has also seen proactive government initiatives and setting up All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the state is a huge fillip in this regard,” Sonowal said.

He also remarked that for ensuring development of all sections of the society quality healthcare must reach the poorest of the poor.
          
Saying that management of quality medical institutions need proper planning and skilled manpower, Sonowal said that the government is keen to ensure effective management of public health institutions and effect of good governance would be felt at all levels of the society as a result of dedicated effort of the government.
              
Dr. N.N. Dutta, Chairman & Managing Director of Down Town Hospital, Dr. Udayan Barua, Medical Superintendant of Down Town Hospital were present in the meeting.
