Assam Rifles recovers huge quantity of wild animals' body parts in Nagaland

Guwahati, Jan 8 (IBNS): The troops of Assam Rifles on Monday recovered huge quantity of wild animals' body parts including bones of tiger and elephant in Nagaland.

The security personnel also arrested two persons who carried the animal parts.

A top official of Assam Rifles said that, based on a specific input, Assam Rifles Medziphema battalion  established a vehicle check post in general area Kukidolong in Nagaland on Monday.

“A Tata winger bearing No MN-01S-9491 was intercepted at the vehicle check post and security personnel had recovered bones of tiger and elephant from the vehicle,” the official said.

The seizure of wild animal bones weighing 13 kg included a full skull with teeth, all four leg bones, complete set of backbone (vertebra), tail bone, ribs and lower neck parts of tiger and elephant parts included two ear and nostril bones.

Security forces have recovered Rs 61,455 in cash alongwith bank transfer slip of Rs 40,000 was also recovered in possession from them.

The top Assam Rifles official said that, the consignment which was hidden in the vehicle was being smuggled by Sum John Ngaihte to Churachandpur in Manipur from Dimapur in Nagaland.
