Assam Rifles recover one AK-56 rifle, other arms in Mizoram

Guwahati: In a major success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of HQ 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) recovered one AK-56  Rifle with three empty magazines, one 9mm pistol in jungle area of Zote in Mizoram on Monday.

The operation was carried out by a team of Assam Rifles and Customs  Department, Champhai District based on specific information. 

One AK-56 series Rifles with three empty magazines & 9mm Pistol also taken by Custom Department, Champhai seized the weapon and further interrogation & findings.

Ongoing smuggling of illegal goods is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have been successful in launching such operations against the smuggling activities in Mizoram.
