Guwahati, Aug 29 (IBNS) : An Army jawan was injured in Assam’s Chirang district, when suspected National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit faction) militants had attacked on a camp of 18 Mahar Regiment on the wee hours on Friday, police said.

Suspected militants had lobbed four hand grenades targeting the Panbari COB 18 Mahar Regiment, in which two exploded.

In the militant attack, an Army radio operator was injured and he was rushed to Guwahati for treatment.

“Suspected militants had lobbed the grenades from a school campus adjacent to the Army camp,” Chirang district SP Ranjan Bhuyan said.

Later, the Army bomb squad had destroyed all unexploded grenades.

The Army and the police had launched search operation against the militants in the area.

This was the second attack by militants against security personnel in BTAD area in past 10 days.

On Aug 21, NDFB(S) militants had attacked on a Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) camp in Kokrajhar district under BTAD area along with Indo-Bhutan border.

The police said that a section of the Bodo outfit group had attacked on a SSB camp at Ultapani area in Kokrajhar district along Indo-Bhutan border on Aug 21.

“The militants had attacked security forces by firing with assault rifles and hurled grenades on them. Bullets were exchanged for an hour,” a police official of Kokrajhar district said.

The militant group had managed to flee to nearest jungle after they were counter attacked by security personnel.
