Assam: Huge quantity of foreign liquor seized by excise department

Guwahati, Jan 7 (IBNS) : Assam Excise department on Saturday seized huge quantity of illegal foreign liquor and beer from Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, officials said.

Assam Excise department PRO Sailendra Pandey said that, following tip-off, excise staff headed by Assistant Inspector of the department Jayanta Choudhury under supervision of Sonitpur district excise superintendent Bedanga Bhushan Saikia had launched operation along the interstate bordering area and seized the liquor and beer at Hatigate area.

The excise officials had seized the liquor and beer from a bolero pickup van.

“The van carried around 185 cases IMFL and beer from West Kameng to Sijusa which lacked of authentic documents. The carrier also failed to produce the original permit,” the excise PRO said.

Value of the seizure liquor and beer is around Rs 3 lakhs and excise officials had arrested two persons identified as Pankaj Dutta and Harekrishna in connection with it.
