Assam govt constitutes One Man Inquiry Committee to probe farmer suicide cases

Guwahati, Oct 28 (IBNS): The Assam Government has constituted a One Man Inquiry Committee headed by Subhash Chandra Das, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, Revenue & Disaster Management Department to probe into the alleged suicidal deaths of farmers in the state.
The Inquiry Committee is constituted to probe into the alleged suicidal deaths of 3908 farmers in Assam since 2001 till date which has been brought to notice of the Government by media reports.  
 
The One Man Inquiry Committee will probe whether such alleged incidents of suicidal death of farmers have occurred in the State since 2001.
 
The Committee is formed to find out the sequence of such suicidal death of farmers, if any, and the causes thereof.
 
Besides any other matter that the Committee may find relevant to the inquiry, the Inquiry Committee will suggest preventive measures to avert recurrence if such incidents have taken place.
 
The Committee will have to submit its report within 30 days from the date of issue of the Notification on October 26, 2015.
