Assam: CISF seizes foreign currency worth Rs 68.70 lakh at Guwahati airport

Guwahati/IBNS: An Imphal-bound passenger was apprehended by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) after detecting USD 93,600 worth approximately Rs 68.70 lakh at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport in Guwahati.

The apprehended passenger was identified as 25-year-old Arbajuddin Male.

According to the reports, on Wednesday, Arbajuddin Male travelling to Imphal transit at Guwahati by Air Asia flight number I5-783 (seat number 31F), approached for PESC and during screening of his hand baggage by CISF ASI Exe S K Singh had some doubt and referred the bag for intensive physical check.

Where Sub-Inspector Dalip Kumar on duty baggage checking officer checked the bag and prima facie no objectionable article was found.

When the CISF Sub-Inspector noticed that, weight of the empty bag was not normal, he detected one false bottom on thorough checking.

When a false layer was opened approximately USD 93,600 worth approximately Rs 68,70,240 was found.

The passenger claimed that he was carrying that USD to Imphal to hand over someone else whom he does not know.

Customs was informed and as per their direction the CISF personnel had apprehended the Imphal-bound passenger.

Meanwhile the Director General of CISF appreciated CISF personnel ASI S K Singh and SI Dalip Kumar for detecting huge amounts of foreign currency and awarded a cash reward of Rs 10,000 to both of them.
