Assam: 1.399 kg gold biscuits seized in Silchar

Guwahati, Jan 7 (IBNS): The Customs department on Sunday said it seized 12 gold biscuits weighing of 1.399 kg from Silchar in Assam’s Barak Valley region.

A top official of Customs department said that the Customs officials have arrested a person in connection with it and the value of the seizure gold biscuits has been estimated to be Rs 43,41,032.

“The arrested person had carried the gold biscuits from Bangladesh via Tripura,” the Customs official said.

According to the reports, over 80 kg gold worth of Rs 26 crore were seized alone in Guwahati, capital city of Assam in last year by various security agencies.

In December last, over 20 kg gold was seized in the capital city of Assam.

Over 1000 kilograms gold worth of several thousand crore rupees have been seized by various security agencies including Cutoms department, Government Railway Police (GRP) in the region in past 6-7 years, officials said.
