Mumbai, June 10 (IBNS): The Haryana Police has revealed that wanted gangster Sampat Nehra was trying to assassinate actor Salman Khan, media reports said on Sunday.

He was arrested by the Haryana Police on June 6.

According to the police, Nehra had visited Mumbai for a recce to hatch the plan to kill Salman.

He even clicked photos of Salman's house.

Sampat Nehra is a sharpshooter with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

It is believed that Nehra, who belongs to the Bishnoi community, was working on the plan since the Bishnoi gang threatened to kill Salman Khan in January.

Earlier in April this year, Salman was convicted in the 20-year old Blackbuck poaching case and had spent two nights in the Jodhpur Central Jail.

Salman was convicted under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972.

He was awarded an imprisonment for five years and was also fined Rs. 10,000.

However, the Bishnoi community, known for their deep respect for their forests and animals, had expressed satisfaction over the verdict.

The actor was convicted for poaching blackbuck, an endangered species protected under the Indian Wildlife Act, in Kankani village of Jodhpur during the shooting of film Hum Saath Saath Hain in September, 1998.

According to the complaint, Salman Khan had killed two blackbucks.
