Army reviews security ahead of second phase voting in J&K
Srinagar, Nov 26 (IBNS): A joint security coordination meeting was held at Khanabal based Headquarters of 1 Sector Rashtriya Rifles to take forward the success of the incident free conduct of the Phase 1 of the Assembly elections in Kashmir to the other phases that are due to take place on 2nd, 9th and 14th December 2014.
The aim of the meeting was to share the security related experiences of Phase 1 held in the area of responsibility of 3 Sector and draw out the strategy for the next three phases.
The security coordination meeting was chaired by Lt Gen Subrata Saha and attended by Maj Gen ST Upasani, GOC Victor Force, Shri AG Mir, IG Kashmir, J&K Police, Brig Paramjit Singh, BGS, HQ 15 Corps, Sector Commanders of the four Rashtriya Rifles Sectors operating in South Kashmir, DIG South Kashmir, SSP Avantipur, SSP Anantnag, SSP Shopian, SP Pulwama and DC Anantnag.
Taking the success story of the security arrangements made for the Phase 1 of Assembly elections where the security forces adopted outstanding measures ranging from the innovative arrangements for delivery of EVMs to the inaccessible areas using All Terrain Vehicles, security of the polling staff, sanitization of the polling booth and adjoining areas, provision of area security including ‘near real time’ reaction to counter the threats, staggered movement of the polling staff and EVMs post elections and an excellent strategy for keeping the areas under surveillance and intimate vigil through multiple means, thereby beating the designs of the inimical elements.
Brig GS Kular, Commander 3 Sector, Rashtriya Rifles who was responsible for the areas where Phase 1 has just concluded, shared his experiences, means and methods adopted for flawless security arrangements as also the lessons drawn from the Phase 1, for the benefit of those who will be responsible for the security relating to the next three phases.
The joint security grid established during the Phase 1 was the outcome of series of deliberations starting from the Core Group Meeting held on 01 November 2014 and followed by the separate meetings for South, Central and North Kashmir between 10th to 17th November, by Lt Gen Subrata Saha, the Chinar Corps Commander and Shri AG Mir, the IG Kashmir, J&K Police. The strategies drawn through these deliberations were put into practice by integrating the different echelons of functioning from apex to the soldier-constable level.
Lt Gen Saha commended the security forces for their remarkable performance towards generating an enhanced sense of security in the areas and countering the threats obtaining in their areas of responsibility.
The Corps Commander also assured the commanders of different security organisations present in the meeting that all forms of assistance will be provided to them for enabling the forces to put the best foot forward.
