New Delhi, Jul 11 (IBNS): The Supreme Court said on Monday that the working hours of the Special Bench is being extended from July18 for speedy justice in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape case, according to media reports.

The apex court said that July 18 onward, the Special Bench will hear the case from 2pm to 6pm.

In April 2016, the court appointed two senior lawyers to appear for the four convicted rapists, Mukesh, Pawan, Vinay and Akshay, media reported.

All four convicts have filed appeals in SC challenging the death sentence given to them by Delhi High Court, according to media reports.

On the night of December 16, 2012, a 23-year-old woman was brutally assaulted and gang-raped by six persons in a moving bus in South Delhi. Her male friend and she were thrown out of the vehicle later. She died in a Singapore hospital on December 29.

Prime accused, Ram Singh, was found dead in a cell in Tihar Jail in March 2013. Another accused, a juvenile at the time of the crime, was convicted and sentenced to three years in a reformation home. He was released from observation home in December 2015.
