Amit Shah to chair meeting of Northern Zonal Council

New Delhi/UNI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will Saturday chair a meeting of the Northern Zonal Council that enables dialogues between the Centre and states in Jaipur, officials said.

The Northern Zonal Council comprises Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, National Capital Territory of Delhi and Union Territory of Chandigarh.

Chief ministers, ministers, chief secretaries, principal secretaries and senior officers of the member states and central government will be among those who will attend the meeting.

The zonal councils are high level advisory fora to enable dialogue between center and states, as well as dialogue between states.

The other zonal councils are Central Zonal Council, comprising the States of Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh;

Eastern Zonal Council, comprising the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Sikkim and West Bengal; Western Zonal Council, comprising the States of Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra and the Union Territories of Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli; and the Southern Zonal Council, comprising the States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

The Union Home Minister is the Chairman of each of these Councils.
