New Delhi/Saharanpur, Oct 7 (IBNS): Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav shared the same stage and addressed a rally in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday where they tried to corner the Congress and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and said they are both similar as far as their policies are concerned.

Samajwadi Party-Bahujan Samaj Party-Rashtriya Lok Dal formed an alliance together in Uttar Pradsh to contest the Lok Sabha polls.

Speaking at the rally, Mayawati was quoted as saying by the media: "I am warning, especially people of the Muslim community, that the Congress is not in a position to fight BJP in UP."

She said the grand alliance is the only option left with the people of the country.

"It is only the gatbandhan that can fight against the BJP," she said.

Targeting the BJP, the former UP Chief Minister said: " BJP will go out of power this time due to their wrong doings and policies. Chowkidari and jumlebaji will not be helping the party in winning votes.”

Akhilesh Yadav said the grand alliance can only ensure bringing a 'change' in the nation.

"There is not much difference in Congress and BJP, if you will look at their policies. They are both same," he said.

Uttar Pradesh is considered as a crucial state as it sends 80 members to the Lok Sabha.

The first phase of voting for the Lok Sabha polls will take place on Apr 11.

The last phase of voting in the seven-phase polling will take place on May 19.

Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
