Aurangabad/UNI: All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MP Imtiaz Jaleel has called people in his constituency to protest against the renaming of Aurangabad as Sambhajinagar by then Maharashtra government led by Uddhav Thackeray.

Former CM had announced his decision in his last Cabinet meeting held on Jun 29.

On Tuesday, the civil societies, various political parties and social organisations unanimously passed a resolution to oppose the decision to rename Aurangabad as Sambhajinagar.

They alleged that the decision was taken hastily and irresponsibly to divert the people from the main issue of development.

The joint meeting led by the Aurangabad MP was attended by various people representing different organisations and civil society.

During the meeting numbers of issues were discussed and a resolution was passed at the joint meeting.

The leaders said that Aurangabad is a historical district surrounded by historical monuments on all four sides.

"We are very proud and respectful of Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj but some political parties are using his name for politics. This is unfortunate.

"A resolution has been passed to oppose the Aurangabad renaming proposal in various ways at different levels," they added.
