Mirzapur, July 20 (IBNS): After meeting the families of people who were killed in the Sonbhadra massacre, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has decided to return to Delhi.

However Priyanka, the Congress general secretary in east Uttar Pradesh, said she will again comeback.

Relatives of few people who were killed in the Sonbhadra massacre travelled all the way to Mirzapur and met Priyanka, who was detained by the Uttar Pradesh police at a guest house.

Interacting with media, Priyanka, the Congress general secretary for east Uttar Pradesh, said: "Two people came but 15 have been stopped by police. Don't know what kind of mentality the state government has. The Congress is a political party and it will continue to fight for the people and raise their voices."

Priyanka was denied permission to visit Sonbhadra

Priyanka, who was stopped on her way to Sonbhadra on Friday morning, spent the last night at the guest house but refused to budge down.

In a late night tweet, Priyanka, the Congress general secretary for east UP, said: "I made it clear that I didn't come here to violate any law but to meet the families of the victims. I once again told the government representatives that I won't back without meeting."

What was the incident?

Ten people were killed and 24 others injured in the shooting over a 36-acre piece of land.

Yagya Dutt, a village chief, along with his associates had fired upon tribal people who were unwilling to give up their land.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who represents the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), slammed the Congress for the Sonbhadra incident. "The shooting is an example of the mafia raj established by the Congress in the state during its days."

This is the first face-off between Priyanka, who was appointed as the general secretary just before the General Elections, and the Yogi government since the Congress' massive defeat in the national polls earlier this year.
