AAP woman councilor allegedly beaten, arrested by police

New Delhi, May 18 (IBNS) Nisha Singh, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councilor, was allegedly beaten, dragged by the hair and arrested by the police in Gurgaon near Delhi on Saturday.

Reports said Nisha, who had quit her job in Google to join politics, was arrested in connection with violence during a demolition by the Haryana Urban Development Authority or HUDA on Friday.

She was reportedly picked up just after being discharged from a hospital where she was treated for injuries from the clashes between police and protesters.

The alleged that police spared senior Congress leaders who were also among the protesters.

Nisha and nine other women have been charged with rioting and attempted murder.

She was reportedly produced before a magistrate late on Saturday night, before being sent to Bhondsi jail.
