24 persons arrested for attack on junior doctor, Assam government to provide full security to doctors, health workers
Guwahati: Police have so far arrested 24 people in connection with the doctor assault incident in Assam’s Hojai district even as videos surfacing the shocking attack triggered an outrage.
On Tuesday a junior doctor was brutally attacked by a mob following death of a COVID-19 patient at a COVID-19 care centre.
Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, 24 persons involved in the barbaric attack including main perpetrators and conspirators have been arrested so far.
Himanta Biswa Sarma further said that he is personally monitoring the investigation of the incident and promised that justice will be served.
He tweeted: “24 culprits involved in this barbaric attack have been arrested and the chargesheet will be filed at the earliest. I am personally monitoring this investigation and I promise that justice will be served.”

The arrested persons were identified as Md. Kamaruddin, Md. Jainal Uddin, Rehanuddin, Saidul Alam, Rahim Uddin, Rajul Islam, Tayebur Rahman, Sahil Islam, Rahimuddin, Abdul Kalam, Nurzul Islam, Abdul Gumi, Dilwar Hussain, Abdul Hussain, Anuwar, Alimuddin, Jamil Ahmed, Sarifuddin, Safiquddin, Matibur Rahman and Misba Begum.
On the other hand, Assam Health minister Keshab Mahanta said that, the state government will provide full security to the doctors and frontline health workers in the state.
Following death of a COVID-19 patient named Giasuddin at Udali Model hospital in Hojai district, the relatives of the deceased person had brutally attacked junior doctor Dr Seuj Kumar Senapati and also vandalized the furniture of the hospital.
