Guwahati, Apr 27 (IBNS): A group of nine organisations, including the All Tiwa Students’ Union, the Koch-Rajbongshi Students’ Union, Tiwa National Solidarity Forum, the Chutiya Jati Sanmilan, enforced a 12-hour Central Assam shutdown on Friday in protest against non-inclusion of tribal MLA Ramakanta Deuri in Sarbananda Sonowal-led Assam government that was expanded on Thursday, which witnessed sporadic violence in various parts.

The bandh was effective in various parts in Central Assam’s Morigaon district and adjoining districts Nagaon and Kamrup (Metro) also.

The shutdown from 5 am on Friday had evoked total response in various parts of Morigaon district and also hit normal life in Nagaon, Kamrup (Metro) districts.

Several violence incidents have been reported during the bandh in Morigaon district, police said.

According to the reports, protesters had burned a few vehicles and pelting stones and damaged several vehicles in various parts of the Central Assam district despite tight security arrangements.

Meanwhile, police have arrested one person for his alleged involvement in the violence.

Shops, business establishments, government and non-government offices remained shut down and vehicles strayed off on road.

On the other hand, BJP MLA Ramakanta Deuri said that, he had earlier served as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Tiwa Autonomous Council and he had contested in the assembly polls after resigning the CEM post.

Deuri further alleged that, his name was not included in the ministers list because of the politics made by Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain.
