12 dead and six critically injured when van rams into truck in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, Apr 28 (IBNS): Twelve people were killed and six severely injured when a van rammed into a truck in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday, according to media reports.

The truck was parked on a flank on the national highway near Ucahulia, when the van rammed into it.

According to local reports, the cab driver may have dozed off and rammed into the truck.

The van, carrying 18 people, including the driver and his helper, was travelling to Sitapur from Shahjahanpur, reports said.

Reportedly, the vehicle was officially meant to carry eight people, including the driver.

Kheri district magistrate Shailendra Kumar Singh, superintendent of police Dr. S Channappa, deputy SP Vijay Anand, Pasgawan and Uchaulia police personnel rushed to the spot for rescue operations, reported the Hindustan Times.
