11-year-old who was allegedly set on fire within military garrison dies

Hyderabad, Oct 9 (IBNS): An 11-year-old boy who was set on fire allegedly within a military garrison in Hyderabad on Wednesday died of 90 percent burn injuries, media reports said.

The boy had reportedly alleged before dying that some military men burnt him. Police said kerosene was poured on the boy at around 3 pm on Wednesday and he was set on fire.

A soft drink bottle with traces of kerosene and matches were found at the spot.

The boy used to live with his family at the military garrison in Mehdipatnam which is known to be a restricted area for outside visitors, sources said.

The police already filed a First Information Report (FIR) in regard to the incident and probing the matter.

The army, however, denied the involvement of its personnel in the case saying that they share a good rapport with some 200 families who stay within the garrison and cannot believe that any of their men could have burnt the boy.

The army is also investigating into the incident.
