Chennai, Mar 24 (UNI) Eleven fishermen, hailing from Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy personnel on Sunday, even as PMK Founder Dr S Ramadoss condemned it and urged the Centre to take steps for their release.

Official sources said that the fishermen were fishing near Neduntheevu when they were arrested

on charges of crossing the IMBL and fishing in Sri Lankan waters.

Fishermen, who were fishing in more than 500 boats, returned home without fishing following the incident.

The fishermen said the Lankan Navy personnel also damaged fishing nets and seized GPS equipments from them.

The arrested fishermen were taken to Karainagar in Sri Lanka.

As the incident of arrest of fishermen continued, several political parties in their election manifesto have promised a permanent solution to the issue.
