New Delhi, Oct 23 (IBNS) Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters and a central institution for literary dialogue, publication and promotion in the country, has finally condemned the killing of Kannada writer MM Kalburgi, after a storm of protest and returning of awards by the recipients protesting rising intolerance in the society.

According to media reports, after an emergency meeting on Friday, the literary body urged eminent writers and poets who have returned awards  to take them back.

The day also witnessed a solidarity silent march of the literary people in New Delhi in protest. The march concluded at the building of the Sahitya Akademi where a memorandum was also submitted by the writers and poets.

Nearly 35 recipients of Sahitya Akademi had returned their awards in protest against incidents like the Dadri lynching and murder of rationalist writer M M Kalburgi.
