Rockstar Games has pushed the release of “Grand Theft Auto VI” to November 19, 2026, extending the wait for the next entry in the franchise and the return to Vice City.

In a statement, the company said the delay would allow additional time to refine the game.

“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve,” Rockstar said.

“We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City.”

The delay was first mentioned in Take-Two Interactive’s financial results, though CEO Strauss Zelnick did not cite a specific reason. Speaking to Variety, he said the company remains confident the final release will be “an unrivalled blockbuster entertainment experience.”

“We’re seeking to release the most extraordinary title anyone’s ever seen in the history of entertainment,” Zelnick said, adding that Rockstar believed “a limited amount of additional time is required for polish.”

Take-Two also said recent layoffs affecting around 30 to 40 staff at Rockstar’s U.K. office were not connected to the delay.
