Google Wallet debuts in India: How is it different from Google Pay?

New Delhi/IBNS: Google has launched its digital wallet application for Android users in India, called Google Wallet, which allows users to securely store private information like store cards, tickets, passes, and IDs.

The company said the rollout will not affect its already popular Google Pay UPI app.

However, it is important to note that Google Wallet is different from its Google Pay application as the purposes of these two apps are different.

According to a blog post by Google, Google Wallet brings a new level of convenience to the Android experience, while the Google Pay app remains the destination for all things payments.

On the other hand, users manage their money and finances using Google Pay app.

This UPI-based app allows users to send money to their friends and family, bank transfers, earn rewards, find offers from favourite merchants and get insights about their spending habits.

However, with Google Wallet, users can now have a single, organized destination for fast, secure access to their everyday essentials, such as boarding passes, loyalty cards, event tickets, public transport tickets, gift cards, etc., making them easily accessible in need.

Google said it has initially partnered with over 20 of India's top brands, offering one of the widest ranges of partners for any digital wallet in India, and the company will add more partners soon.

Some of these partners of Google Wallet include PVR & Inox, Air India, Indigo, Flipkart, Pine Labs, Hyderabad Metro, Kochi Metro, VRL Travels, Abhibus, Dominos, and Shoppers Stop.

According to Google, its digital wallet app is built with the users' security and privacy in mind, giving them control over what information is stored and how it is used.
