Cambridge University Press India collaborates with J C Bose Science Heritage Museum Kolkata

Kolkata, May 18 (IBNS): Commemorating World International Museum Day, Cambridge University Press India and the JC Bose Science Heritage Museum, Kolkata have announced a new collaboration in a bid to promote academic research and excellence in the city.

As a part of the association, the museum will host regular academic discussions, workshops, book releases for a period of 12 months with Cambridge University Press as the academic partner.

Focused on cutting edge research and recent developments in diversified areas of science and technology, these academic discussions will be attended by eminent academicians, students and subject experts.

Scientists, researchers and faculty members from premier institutions in and around Kolkata including Indian Statistical Institute, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Calcutta University, Indian Institute of Engineering Science & Technology Shibpur, Bose Institute, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, S N Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences and Jadavpur University will be invited for lectures and discussions on emerging trends in science and technology.

Speaking on the collaboration,Ratnesh Kumar Jha, MD, South Asia Cambridge University Press said,” “The association between Sir JC Bose and University of Cambridge goes back to 1884 when he received his BA in Natural Sciences from Christ College, University of Cambridge and MA in 1896. This endeavour will begin a new chapter in erstwhile collaboration between Sir JC Bose, father of modern science in India and University of Cambridge."

Sharing views on the promotion of science and technology, Prof Parul Chakrabarti, member of Sir JC Bose Trust, Kolkata said, “Science, technology and engineering are major forces of socio-economic change.  As a part of science and technology popularization, this association will enable the exchange of new ideas and evolving challenges in the field of S&T applications as well as act as a gateway for innovation.”

Kick-starting the year long association, JC Bose Science Heritage Museum and Cambridge University Press organised the inaugural academic discussion on Thursday on “Classical and Quantum Computation and Information” at Acharya Bhaban, Kolkata. Prof Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Director, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

The session was also followed by the launch of a book titled “Quantum Spin Glasses, Annealing and Computations” written by eminent scientist Prof Bikas Chakrabarti from Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics.
