Tech major and online marketplace Amazon has launched the Alexa+ website, allowing users to interact with its virtual assistant directly through a web browser — a move that places the company in more direct competition with ChatGPT and other AI chat platforms.

Announcing the rollout on Monday, Amazon said: “Today, we’re expanding on that vision by rolling out Alexa.com to all Alexa+ Early Access customers.”

The company said more than 600 million Alexa-enabled devices have been purchased worldwide to date.

Amazon noted that as artificial intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in everyday life, Alexa+ must be accessible across multiple platforms. “People are finding incredible value in how AI can help in every aspect of their day, and to truly serve as a personal assistant, Alexa+ needs to be available wherever they are — at home, on their phone, and now on the web,” the company said. “Alexa.com brings the full power of Alexa+ right to your browser.”

According to Amazon, users can use Alexa.com to get quick answers, explore complex topics, create content, plan travel itineraries and receive help with homework. Beyond providing information, the company said Alexa+ is designed to take action on users’ behalf.

“It can help you complete countless tasks, including managing to-do lists, updating family calendars, controlling smart home devices, making reservations and much more,” the statement added.
